Popl review (2026): what it does well, and what a local business should know

Popl is an event lead capture platform with a digital business card attached. A plain review for local trades and service businesses: sharing, Wallet, prices, what users say, and where echocard differs.

Published 20 October 2026 · Facts and quotes checked 20 October 2026

This review is written by the makers of echocard, a competitor. Every fact has a source in the references, and the section on where Popl is better is as honest as the one on where it is not.

What Popl is

In 2026 Popl's homepage calls it an AI platform for in-person events: a universal badge scanner, data enrichment and CRM sync for sales teams working conferences. The digital business card is still there, as one product among several, and the App Store listing is titled Popl: AI Lead Capture.

That matters for a local business because the whole product is built around the owner collecting other people's details. The card is the thing you show; the lead is the thing you keep.

Sharing and where the card ends up

A Popl card is shared by QR code, link, email signature, home and lock screen widgets, Apple Watch, and optional NFC cards and tags that Popl sells. The recipient needs no app: the link opens in any browser. The card's codes are dynamic, so editing the card changes what the next scan shows.

What the recipient keeps is a contact in their phone book, or nothing. A reviewer on the App Store objects to the card page nudging the recipient to download Popl before saving the contact. Either way, the card does not sit anywhere the customer will see it again.

Apple Wallet and Google Wallet

Popl's help centre explains how to add your QR code to your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet on any plan. The pass is your code, for you to open and show, so a new contact can scan it. The help article does not describe a way for the recipient to add your card to their own Wallet, and we could not find one.

Follow-ups

Popl has an automatic follow-up email. When it is on, both the new lead and the Popl user receive an introductory email after connecting, immediately or after a delay set in hours and minutes. It can be enabled on free and paid plans, and Pro, Pro Plus and Teams can change the wording. There is also an AI-drafted follow-up you send by hand from the Leads tab.

Both go to leads: people who filled in your form or whose badge or card you scanned. Someone who scanned your code and saved your number gave Popl nothing to email, so they hear nothing. In October 2026 one App Store reviewer said the AI follow-up had stopped and support told them it was discontinued.

Plans and prices

Popl's pricing page is for teams and ends in Request Pricing, with pricing quoted in a meeting. The Popl for Individuals link opens the app rather than a web page. The public individual prices are the App Store's in-app purchases: Popl Pro US$7.99 a month or US$76.99 a year, and Popl Pro Plus US$14.99 a month or US$144.99 a year, as of 20 October 2026.

A free plan exists; Popl's help centre names Free, Pro, Pro+ and Team members. What Free includes is not stated on the website. A Google Play reviewer in September 2026 says the free app shows only the last five connections, and an App Store reviewer in July 2026 describes a paywall before seeing what the app does.

What users say

The ratings are high: 4.8 from 103K on the App Store, 4.8 from 18.1K on Google Play, and a 4.2 TrustScore from 988 reviews on Trustpilot. Positive reviews praise the customisation, the analytics and the fact that updating details needs no new tag.

The complaints in the fifty most recent App Store reviews cluster around the paywall, a login that needs a connection, saved details not sticking, the recipient being pushed to install the app, and support. On Trustpilot the one-star reviews are mostly about NFC product orders not arriving.

Where Popl is better than echocard

Badge scanning, paper card scanning, lead enrichment, CRM integrations, event attribution, team templates, SSO and NFC hardware. echocard has none of these. If you staff a stand at a trade show, Popl is built for your week and echocard is not.

Where echocard is better than Popl

The card lives in the customer's Wallet, not on your phone. The back of the card has a Google review button, a booking button, a call button and save contact, free. Pro follows up with everyone who saved the card, on their lock screen, without a form. Prices are on the home page, there is no app to install, and the card page never asks the customer to download anything.

Verdict

Popl is a strong product for the job it now advertises, which is capturing leads at events for sales teams. A local trade or service business is not that customer. For a card the customer keeps, that asks for the review and brings them back, echocard is the better fit and costs less to find out.

Yes. echocard is a digital business card made for local trades and service businesses. It is free to start and needs no app or NFC hardware.

Does Popl put the card in the customer's Wallet?

No. Popl's help centre describes adding your own QR code to your own Apple Wallet or Google Wallet so you can show it to people. The person who scans it opens your card page in a browser. echocard does the reverse: the customer adds your card to their Wallet.

How much does Popl cost for one person?

Popl's website does not publish individual prices. The App Store lists Popl Pro at US$7.99 a month or US$76.99 a year and Popl Pro Plus at US$14.99 a month or US$144.99 a year, as of 20 October 2026. Teams are quoted by sales.

Does Popl send follow-up messages?

Popl can send an automatic email to a lead after a connection, meaning someone who filled in your form or whose badge you scanned. It does not message someone who only saved your card. echocard Pro sends a thank you and a reminder to every phone that has the card, as lock screen notifications.
